Overview of Silica Aerogel Granules
Silica Aerogel particles are a semi-transparent product made from dried silica particles. The product can adjust the light transmittance of aerogel by adjusting the original aerogel particles and pore size. It has characteristics such as extremely high porosity, extremely low density, high specific surface area, and ultra-high pore volume. It can increase the thermal rating and light transmittance while reducing glare, sound transmission, and heat and cold transfer.
Features of Silica Aerogel Granules
1) Excellent thermal insulation and heat insulation properties.
2) Highly hydrophobic.
3) Extremely low density.
4) Good sound insulation.
5) Environmentally friendly.

Applications of Silica Aerogel Granules
1) Insulation and heat insulation filler for petrochemical pipelines.
2) Filler for cold-resistant clothing.
3) Filler for heat-insulating foam boards.
4) Can be used as a substitute for fumed silica in various fillers.
5) Suitable for manufacturing water-based aerogel slurry, which can be added to water-based coatings to produce various heat-insulating coatings.
6) The powder can also be used as a substitute for pigments and fillers in powder coatings.
7) Can be used as an oil spill cleaner for marine and lake surfaces.
8) Can be added to foamed PVC (20%) to produce soundproofing panels for building materials.
Operating precautions of Silica Aerogel Granules:
Do not inhale dust generated during use. Install ventilation equipment in areas where dust is likely to be generated. Avoid direct contact with skin and eyes. Use protective equipment such as gloves, masks, and goggles.
Storage of Silica Aerogel Granules:
Keep packaging sealed and store in a dry, well-ventilated place. Do not store with other volatile chemicals to prevent the aerogel from absorbing these substances.

FAQs of Silica Aerogel
1. What are Silica Aerogel Granules?
Silica Aerogel Granules are lightweight, porous particles made from silica aerogel — a highly insulating nanomaterial known for its exceptional thermal, acoustic, and dielectric properties. These granules are typically used as loose-fill insulation or as a component in composite materials.
2. What are the key features of Silica Aerogel Granules?
- Ultra-low thermal conductivity (as low as 0.015–0.018 W/m·K)
- Lightweight (density typically between 80–200 kg/m³)
- High surface area (due to nanoporous structure)
- Hydrophobic (repels water, preventing moisture absorption)
- Non-combustible (inherently fire-resistant)
- Environmentally friendly (non-toxic and chemically stable)
3. What are the common applications of Silica Aerogel Granules?
- Thermal insulation in industrial piping, LNG tanks, and cryogenic equipment
- Loose-fill insulation in walls, attics, and floors
- Additive in composites (e.g., concrete, plaster, or polymer composites for enhanced insulation)
- Sound insulation in acoustic panels and building materials
- Cryogenic insulation for liquid nitrogen and liquid natural gas (LNG) storage
- Automotive and aerospace for lightweight thermal management systems
4. How do Silica Aerogel Granules provide such good insulation?
The granules have a highly porous structure with nanoscale pores that restrict the movement of air molecules, significantly reducing heat transfer via conduction and convection. This makes them one of the most effective thermal insulation materials available.
5. Are Silica Aerogel Granules safe to handle?
Yes, they are generally safe to handle but should be treated like other fine particulate materials. It is recommended to use gloves and a dust mask to avoid skin and respiratory irritation. Safety data sheets (SDS) should be consulted for specific handling and disposal instructions.
