What is Superplasticizer?

Superplasticizer (SP), also known as a high-range water reducer, is a concrete admixture that can reduce the amount of water used in mixing while maintaining the slump of concrete.

The superplasticizer can disperse the cement particles, improve its working performance, improve the fluidity of the concrete mix and reduce the unit water consumption. Or reduce the amount of cement per unit to save cement. 

The characteristics of Superplasticizer

1. Superplasticizer has a strong dispersion effect on cement, can greatly improve the flow of cement mix and concrete slump, and greatly reduce water consumption, significantly improving the workability of concrete. However, some superplasticizers will accelerate the slump loss of concrete, and excessive dosage will lead to bleeding. High-efficiency superplasticizer does not change the concrete setting time. It has a slight retarding effect when the dosage is large (overdosage incorporation) but does not delay the growth of early strength of hardened concrete.

2. It can greatly reduce water consumption and significantly improve the strength of concrete at different ages. When the strength is kept constant, the cement can be saved by 10% or more.

3. The content of chloride ions is small, and it does not rust the steel bar. It can improve the durability of concrete and enhance the impermeability, freeze-thaw resistance and corrosion resistance of concrete.

What is the difference between admixture and superplasticizer?

Superplasticizer is a water-reducing admixture capable of producing large water reduction or great flowability without causing undue set retardation or entrainment of air in mortar or concrete. An admixture is a mixture of two or more components.
